Belarus: Situation In the Field of National Security and Defense as of March 2017

Heads of the Belarusian and Russian Security Councils met to discuss bilateral cooperation in national, regional and international security, including the “West-2017” exercises. Delegation of the Belarusian Defense Ministry visited a number of Russian military industrial complex enterprises. Repressions by the Belarusian authorities against participants of the protests made questionable prospects for normalization of relations with the West as well as financial and investment cooperation. Belarus: Situation In the Field of National Security and Defense as of February 2017

The February protests put the Belarusian authorities in front of a dilemma: to maintain control over the situation in the country, and simultaneously not to escalate repressions that might result in tough reaction from the West.
