Why Waiting Out the Russia-Ukraine War May Not Buy NATO Safety

A protracted war does more than exhaust Russia – it reshapes the country’s economy, army, and politics in ways that will not easily reverse. That could make a clash with NATO more likely, not less – the opposite of what many Western officials assume. It is still cheaper to help Ukraine end the war now than to rely on its sacrifices to postpone a war for NATO. Weapons sitting in depots will not help Europe tomorrow if Ukraine does not hold out today.
